PEOPLE in Holyoake Street campaigning to stop a block of flats being built opposite their houses have won the backing of the Deputy Mayor of Wellington.

Good tidings for local firms as they are shortlisted in Somerset Business Awards 2026Cllr Janet Reed has warned that if the plan is not defeated it may set a precedent which could adversly affect the town.
The scheme has been condemned by other Wellington town councillors who say the proposed housing scheme was out of character, and too big.
Cllr Reed said: "When you look at the exact scale drawing of what the houses opposite will have facing them, it's clear that the proposed building hardly fits in with the street scene."
