CALLS are being made for legal powers to be used to prevent further deterioration in the condition of the derelict Fox’s factory site off Weavers Reach, Tonedale, Wellington.

The former woollen mill is listed by Historic England as grade two starred, ranking it among the top 5.5 per cent of architecturally and/or historically important buildings in the country.

But much of the site has gradually fallen into disrepair since its closure more than 20 years ago and a series of private development proposals have come to nothing.

Now, town councillor John Thorne wants Taunton Deane Council to use legislation which allows local authorities to take urgent action to protect listed buildings.
