THE Wellington Medical Centre came to the rescue of the nearby Luson Surgery when it lost its electrical supply on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.
Luson’s practice manager Martin Ellacott said: “Power was lost part way through Wednesday, resulting in the loss of access to patient computer records.
“In an effort to reduce the disruption, GP surgeries and practice nurse clinics were moved to Wellington Medical Centre in Mantle Street, where our staff were able to access records and run surgeries and clinics as normal.
“While the original supply problem was resolved late on Wednesday, it became apparent that a second problem had developed internally. As we were not fully operational by the end of Wednesday, we took the decision to run from Wellington Medical Centre for the whole day on Thursday.
“The problem was resolved on Thursday and we are grateful to T & C Electrical Contractors, Taunton, who responded so quickly to help us out of a difficult position. The surgery was fully operational by Thursday afternoon.
“We have contingency plans in place for such situations, although you always hope that you will never need to implement them. It was good to see the plans work and the practice staff respond so well to the situation to keep our services running. We would like to thank our patients for their understanding during this difficult couple of days.
“Particular thanks are due to Lydia Daniel-Baker and her team at Wellington Medical Centre for their assistance hosting us and making us and our patients feel welcome.
“Without their support we would not have been able to keep running, and there would have been much greater disruption to our patients, which would have had a knock-on effect over the coming few weeks.”
