A PET Chihuahua, savagely attacked by another dog just off the High Street in Lancer Court, Wellington, at the start of the month, is still undergoing treatment for her injuries.
Pepe, who is six, was being walked by her owner Josey McCannon on Saturday, December 1, when it was mauled by a ‘big black dog’. Pepe was treated for a serious neck wound at Mount Vets and faces yet another operation this week. The hope is that she will be allowed home for Christmas if she is well enough.
Mrs McCannon says she was walking the dog when the attack happened.
She said shortly afterwards: “The woman owner of the other dog passed off the attack as if it were nothing.”
She added: “I screamed and tried to get the dog off Pepe. There was blood everywhere.”
Mrs McCannon, who lives just off the High Street in Wellington, is still traumatised by the attack because ‘Pepe is my world’.
Pepe has already had a skin graft on her neck but Mount Vets says she requires more surgery.
The owner of the dog which attacked Pepe has not been found and has not come forward to admit the offence.
Mrs McCannon said the offending dog’s owner did not show any remorse afterwards and simply walked away.
