THE owner of a pet Chihuahua attacked and seriously hurt by a ‘big black dog’ in Wellington is facing a vets’ bill for nearly £4,000.
Pepe, who is six, is now back home with Josey McCannon after being treated at Mount Vets for a serious neck wound, among other injuries.
Mrs McCannon, a widow who lives just off the High Street in Wellington, says she is still distraught about the attack which occurred at Lancer Court near Asda on Saturday, December 1.
She said: “I’m still very upset and by the fact that the owner of the dog which savaged Pepe brushed off the attack as if it was nothing.
“I still cannot get over screaming and trying to get the dog off Pepe. She means everything to me.
“The lovely thing is that she is now home – it’s a wonderful Christmas and New Year present. However, she will still require more treatment.
“There was a time when I thought I might lose her. Everyone has been so kind. People stop me in the street and ask me how Pepe is.”
The owner of the dog which attacked Pepe is still not known.
