MEMBERS of Nynehead Parish Council discussed several planning and highways issues at the October meeting.
There was also a report on the state of the parish footpaths from parish footpaths liaison officer Joe Frost. He reported that many fields had been ploughed around the parish and that local farmers had acted quickly to re-instate the footpaths. He extended his thanks to them for their co-operation.
It has been reported that a number of well-respected residents are extremely upset by the closure of the permissive paths on Mr and Mrs Darby’s land and while they understand the action taken, wish it published through the parish council and the local Press that the extreme measure taken by the Darbys has been caused by non- residents of the village.
There has been total disregard of the notices requesting them to dispose of their dog waste bags instead of which they have been leaving them all over the footpaths and fields. It seems that villagers’ enjoyment has been spoilt by outsiders.
Members were also informed that the mobile library service provided by Somerset Libraries Services has been withdrawn from Nynehead as there are no regular users and Wellington Library is less than three miles away from the village.
If anyone is housebound or unable to get to the library in Wellington, a home library service is available provided by the Royal Voluntary Service.
Council members pointed out that Nynehead also has the new book exchange in the old telephone kiosk which villagers can make use of.
No parish council meeting will be held in November with the next one taking place on December 5 at the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm. Please contact the clerk Ros Shepherd for further information on 01823 660940.
