MORE than 60 children turned out when the Christmas lights were switched on in Lancer Court in High Street, Wellington.

Santa visited on his sleigh and youngsters received goodie bags provided by the WWN.

Among those who attended were the Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington, Cllr Gary James and his wife Bee, and ‘Archie’ – Fiona Mahoney, chief executive of town-based dementia charity Reminiscence Learning.

Children from Bouncy Bear Childcare in Courtland Road, St John’s Primary School and Court Fields School helped plant up the beds near the shops to create an inter-generational ‘Archie Garden’ which will be looked after by pupils from Rockwell Green Primary School and Wellington and Longforth House.

Terry Milton, who takes photographs for the WWN, provided the main tree.
