THE sound of English music from more than 500 years ago will be heard at St John’s Church in Wellington on Sunday.

Blackdowns Early Music Projects (BEMP) will bring to life music from The Eton Choirbook, music first heard around 1480 and into the 16th Century, at 6.45pm. Musical director Jan Joost van Elburg will give a talk at 6pm.

The Eton Choirbook was created between 1500 and 1505. It originally contained 93 works by 24 composers from the early Tudor period and was compiled for use in Henry VI’s Chapel at Eton College.

The 17 singers for this project will gather later this week from all over Europe and throughout the UK – Armenia, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England – to rehearse this unique and challenging programme.

Tickets – £15, students £8 and under-12s free – are available from Wellington Community Office on 01823 663379, by email from blackdownsearlymusic@

gmail.com and at the door.
