MORE than 15,000 people filled Wellington town centre for the annual food and drink festival on Saturday.

eat:Wellington showcased more than 80 of Somerset’s finest food and drink produces in the heart of the town.

Alongside a great selection of produce was lots of free entertainment, cookery school, craft tents and music. In keeping with the festival’s sustainability policy visitors were encouraged to cycle or walk into the festival.

Festival organiser Sarah Milner Simonds said: “We had a brilliant festival, with lots of happy visitors enjoying the warm weather and lots of producers selling out.

“Being proud of the land is something that runs through the heart of our work and bringing such a wide variety of producers together certainly was the right mix.”

The team tweaked the layout at the festival, designating two specific areas for street food, adding more seating and increasing the investment in free entertainment.

The Best in Show competition sponsored by Hawksmoor Investment Management had three winners. Harth Truffles were the Sponsor’s Choice and Somerset Deli won in the People’s Choice vote. One voter was drawn at random and Vicky Clarke of Wellington won three cookery books.

The festival returns to Wellington on September 2, 2020. A new festival is being held in Minehead on Saturday, October 12, with a festive festival in Taunton on Saturday, November 30.
