COURT Fields School in Wellington has hosted two STEM works days along with energy company EDF.

The first event involved 86 Year 8 students working in teams to design and build the furthest-travelling egg carry rocket. Students worked in teams of five and tested their designs before making adjustments.

The groups were marked not only on how far the rocket travelled but also their design, presentation and teamwork. The day focused on getting students engaged in problem solving ideas and possible STEM careers.

The second event for Year 9 students focused on the energy crisis and how it can be solved.  Students competed to build the most efficient wind turbine, and learned about the production of electricity, and the careers available in the STEM industry.
