BOOKSHOP by the Blackdowns is set to host an award-nominated author for a talk on her most recent thriller novel.

On Friday, June 13, at 6.15pm in South Street’s Bookshop, Sarah Easter Collins – a writer and painter from Exmoor - will be discussing her book ‘Things Don’t Break On Their Own’, a story of sisterhood that explores both the nature of loss and trauma, and the tricks that our memories can play.

Sarah said: “The reactions to the novel have been wonderful, and I'm always impressed by the sort of questions I get asked.

“I have been hugely touched to have had strangers from all over the world write to tell me that the story meant something important to them.”

Things Don’t Break On Their Own begins with a dinner party hosted by a woman and her wife, a gathering of friends and relatives, some of whom know each other really well, and others not at all.

One of the invited guests, Willa, is the ex-lover of one of the hosts, but that’s the least complicating factor about the evening.

Willa’s entire adult life has been coloured by the disappearance of her younger sister, who vanished without trace at the age of thirteen and, twenty-five years later, she still thinks she sees her everywhere.

But somebody at that dinner party knows exactly what happened to her sister, and throughout the course of that explosive evening and the following day, Willa will find out too.

The novel was recently nominated for an Edgar Award, America's biggest mystery and thriller awards, and Sarah has had the chance to speak on a live panel in New York, joined book clubs, and visited book shops and libraries internationally.

The evening will feature an interview conducted by the bookshop’s team, followed by a question-and-answer session and a book-signing.
