HE loved it so much he bought the company! That was Victor Kiam’s famous saying when he advertised the Remington shaving brand in the 1980s.
Now Wellington estate agent Nick Girone-Maddocks has followed in the same vein becoming a co-owner-director of Gibbins Richards.
The opportunity came to Nick and his colleague Ben Grant, who ran the Wellington and Bridgwater offices respectively, early last year. They are now busy settling into their new roles, looking after all three of Gibbins Richards’ busy sales offices – Wellington, Bridgwater and their flagship, Taunton – as well as about 25 full- and part-time staff.
“It’s an opportunity I didn’t want to miss” said Nick, 47, who has lived and worked in Somerset for 20 years. “The company has such a brilliant reputation and I know Ben and I can give it a push forward in the coming years.”
The founding directors have been very ‘hands on’ since they opened the doors in 1992 and are now taking a step back by just looking after Gibbins Richards’ Lettings department.
“They are still involved in the sales departments but are not as ‘front-line’ any more,” Nick added. “The well-known name won’t change and the branding will become stronger than ever”.
Among Nick’s career credentials are agency experience across Somerset, as well as Devon and central London. He is also a qualified property auctioneer. Nick will still be mainly in the Wellington office but the acquisition means his long-time colleague Claire Beale has been appointed sales manager in Wellington. Claire is equally well-known locally as she has worked as an estate agent in the town for nearly 20 years.
Nick is a familiar face in Wellington through his property and school contacts, and is chairman of Wellington Angling Association. He is also well known on the regional and national music circuit thanks to his involvement with local band Thunderbridge Bluegrass, and his song-writing and other performing and recording projects. He is married with two children and has lived close to the town for 20 years.
