AT LAST week’s evening meeting of Wiveliscombe Town Council the following motion was passed with strong support.

“Wiveliscombe Town Council appreciates the contribution of all EU citizens to the life of the Town and wishes to assure them they will always be welcome here”.

When asked by the WWN for a further comment, Peter Berman, who proposed the motion, said: “There are a whole number of EU citizens living in and around Wivey who have really contributed to the life of our community.

“Some of them have been here for many years and are with British partners. I find it really sad that, since the 2016 referendum, so many of them have said that they now felt unwelcome in this country.

“I wanted our Town Council to make it plain that they need not feel this way.

“It would be great if other local councils in the area and perhaps our county and district councils could take the same approach.”
