GRAFFITI sprayed on a wall at Wellington Park beside the Recreation Ground has been cleared up quicky by the Deane council.

Former policeman Grahame Woodward was annoyed about the vandalism so soon after paths at the park had been resurfaced.

He said: “A tad depressing, isn’t it, that so soon after the park has had a ‘facelift’ to its pathways some anti-social elements in our midst should think it a great idea to spray graffiti ‘tags’ on walls abutting the park?

“It would, of course, be nice to think that the police have discovered to whom these ‘tags’ belong and have taken those responsible to task – along with whoever decided it was a splendid idea to kick out one of the new panels in the wooden park gates in Beech Grove in order to make access into the park easy at any time of the night after the park has been officially closed for the day.

“Assuming for the minute that those behind the graffiti are as yet unknown, wouldn’t it be refreshing if parents of local teenagers might ask their children if they know who the ‘tags’ belong to, and then report same to the local police to allow them to make the necessary follow-up enquiries?’’
