ONE-TIME Monument Close, Wellington, resident Barbara Bedford, who is now 95 and lives in Penrith, sent in this poem, ‘Lockdown and Me’.
Lockdown and me, we drink too much tea
Eat biscuits we don’t even like
We’re out of condition, we’ll go for walk
A night of carol singing as Bishopswood sees its Candlelight Inn reopen for Christmas
Good tidings for local firms as they are shortlisted in Somerset Business Awards 2026
Saboteurs give police drone footage of trail hunt allegedly becoming illegal fox hunt
Christmas at the Wellesley returns with festive talent showcaseBut I wish I could still ride my bike
If someone comes near, we’ll cross over the road
And give them a friendly nod
It’s good to be out, and nobody cares
If our walk turns into a plod
‘Oh you’ve got a new style,’ they say with a smile
As they look at my fast-growing locks
‘Well it’s now all the rage for a girl of my age
And my grandchildren tell me it ROCKS’
But Lockdown and me, can always feel free
In a garden, where flowers always bloom
Which one day, we’ll share, with people who care
And when sunshine will banish the gloom
