VOLUNTEERS are being sought in the Wellington area to help people who will struggle to cope in the event of severe winter weather over the next few months.

Slippery pavements and roads can make it difficult or impossible for some people to get out for essential supplies, and those with mobility or health issues can be particularly affected.

Wellington Town Council is updating its list of volunteers willing to help out in their neighbourhood in the event of extreme weather.

Volunteers will be people who may be prepared to clear a stretch of pavement or run an essential errand for a neighbour, whether on foot or in a vehicle which can cope with snowed-up roads.

A spokesperson for the council said: “All offers of help will be greatly appreciated and if you feel you can lend a hand please contact staff at the town council office giving us your contact details, together with details of any assistance you can offer.

“Your details will not be shared with anyone outside of the clerk’s office, and you will only be contacted in the case of extreme conditions.”

Wellington Town Council is at 28 Fore Street, Wellington – phone 01823 662855 or email [email protected]
