THE Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be staging a flypast at this summer’s Wellington Carnival Street Fair in a major coup for the event.

A Spitfire and Hurricane fighter planes, along with a Lancaster bomber, will fly over Wellington after the RAF accepted an application to support the event.

Louise Brierley, from the carnival, said: “I cannot put into words how ecstatic and grateful we are to the RAF for supporting our event, especially as this year marks 100 years of the RAF.

“It promises to provide the climax of the day. I have lived in Wellington all my life and cannot recall anything as special and unique as this happening in or rather ‘above’ our town.”

She said the flypast would capture the public’s attention and increase footfall at the street fair – and reward everyone who supports the event, including stallholders, volunteers, local businesses opening on the day and all the local entertainment groups which provide entertainment free of charge.

Wellington Carnival Street Fair is on Sunday, June 3, and more details of the entertainment schedule and so on will be publicised nearer of the event. The street fair is the main fundraiser for Wellington Carnival on Saturday, September 29.
