LOCAL MP Jeremy Browne has slammed cuts in residential care budgets which he says have "worrying consequences" for the care of elderly frail people.
Speaking after visiting Pulsford Lodge, Wiveliscombe, Mr Browne, whose Taunton constituency covers the Wellington area, said a cut of 2% out of the budget for residential care imposed by the Conservative administration at County Hall would mean cutting frontline care provision and increasing the fees of privately-funded residents.
He said: "The ageing population is already putting extra pressure on budgets for residential care.
"The Conservative care home cuts are aimed directly at the most frail and vulnerable people in Somerset."
