SKY Sports personality Jeff Stelling ended the first day of his challenge to walk the equivalent of 15 marathons in 15 days with a cup of tea at Wellington Football Club.
Jeff began the day walking from Exeter in his bid to raise cash for Prostate Cancer UK.
The Wellington club provided free hospitality for the Sky host and his large party – and they next day they moved on to Weston-super-Mare.
Jeff said: “It makes me feel very humble but it also makes me feel very gratified that I’m in a position where I can do something.
“Prostate Cancer kills one man every hour in the UK, and I just decided I couldn’t sit on my backside and do nothing about it. I can put one foot in front of the next and hopefully raise awareness and raise funds to help men beat this diabolical disease.”
Jeff, who is known to millions of football fans as the host of the Soccer Saturday show, said the revised route from a marathon walk for the same cause last year meant he could visit places missed last time round, such as Wellington.
“Crucially, it gives us that opportunity to go to parts of the country that we’ve not been to before to get our message over to people who maybe didn’t hear the message as loudly last time round,” said Jeff.
The presenter is also famous for being the subject of football pundit Chris Kamara’s ‘unbelievable Jeff’ catchphrase.
