WELLINGTON Rugby Club’s annual fireworks display on Saturday, November 5, was a showstopper for the 2,000 spectators at the Athletic Ground.
Warmed by a roaring bonfire topped with an illuminated Guy, again created by the children of Beech Grove Primary School and Caroline Davey, the crowd counted down to another fantastic themed display.
The event was compered by rugby club president Greg Dyke with sound and music controlled by Allan Samuel and engineered by Terry Milton.
The crowd was treated to an aerial and field display set to music of Thomas the Tank Engine, Batman, the Monkees and a crossfiring Magnificent 7. There were tributes to the late Dave Bowie, the Olympics and Roald Dahl and a Sci-fi grand finale of crossfiring Spaceships provided a nod to the latest Star Trek movie.
The display was once again directed by Neil Bache who was supported by his elite firing team of John Crockett, Mark Wardell, Simon Cottrell, Julian Jones and Allyn Chetland, whose experience provided another safe, successful and spectacular display.
Neil said: “Every year we try and provide a good family night out and hopefully this year was no exception. The display simply would not happen if it wasn’t for the hard work and support from all those involved, including our family and friends. And it’s thanks to the people of Wellington and the surrounding area for their continued support”.
A big thanks goes to all those from the club who volunteered their time to help make the night a success including David Case, Nick Southcott, Andy Dunstan, Ian Grabham, Taffy Jones snr, Ozzy Fancy, Bill Sherwin, Phil Braddick, Chris Bullock, Richard Fox, Nigel Davey and gate, bar and patrol helpers.
Thanks go as well to Wellington Timber and Swallowfield Consumer Products who helped and supported the event, and to St John Ambulance.
