A DAY after the Nynehead to Wellington Road was submerged by several feet of water the risk of further flooding has receded.

The government’s flood alert for the River Tone catchment which was updated on Sunday lunchtime said river levels were expected to remain high until 10am on Monday.

It advised motorists to check with local authorities as to instances of specific road closure due to flooding.

Today, the waters which had submerged the road between Wellington and Nynehead had drained away to puddles by the roadside.

However, river levels remain higher than usual. The river level at Greenham was this morning recorded at 0.782 metres. Though this is within the usual range, it is toward the higher end of the typical level.

The River Tone was seen swollen at Bishops Hull, though did not threaten to burst the banks. Flooding risk remains low, as the Met Office expects isolated showers to die off into the evening.

The forecast for the rest of the week is of sunny spells interrupted by rain and drizzle, with strong winds throughout.
