THE grave of Rocky Broadway in Wellington Cemetery was covered in flowers last week following a funeral service.
The Barley Mow at Rockwell Green hosted about 80 guests after the service, who socially distanced in the pub, the back garden and car park. Landlady Lorraine Taylor said: “They stayed about three hours. It was a lovely send-off – everyone was polite and nice.”
Lorraine said she was told about 200 people attended the service – although, contrary to rumours around town, heavyweight boxing champion ‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury was not one of them.
Bloomin’ Lovely in Lancer Court, Wellington, provided some of the funeral flowers – Jessica Mai Lang, who works at the florist’s, said it was two days’ work for two staff.
Police officers were highly visible last Thursday as the long funeral procession, headed by a horse-drawn carriage carrying the coffin, passed through Wellington on its way to the cemetery.
