ORGANISERS of the forthcoming annual eat:Festival in Wellington are preparing to serve up a fantastic day for visitors.

Members of Wellington Town Council were recently told that the event on Saturday, September 7, would feature more than 80 food and drink producers.

There would also be ‘lots of sparkle’ along with a cook school, DJ, screen-printing workshop and street entertainment.

Beverley Milner Simonds, of eat:Festival, said: “We hope the festival will bring people together and celebrate a fantastic day.

“This will be our fourth year in Wellington and we hope to have a great many years to come in the future.

“We opened the booking for food and drink producers on December 1 and by the end of February we were full – it is a popular festival.”

Beverley said she hoped the festival would have a positive impact on the environment. She told councillors that all the producers would have ‘compostable packaging’ and asked visitors to bring their own bags.

It is expected that the town council will have a stall at the festival which will run from 10am-4pm. Cllr John Thorne quipped: “I’m sure Cllr Andy Govier will be able to man the stall for the first six hours.”

Councillors have supported the eat:Festival as an event for local people and for attracting visitors to the town.

eat:Festivals are held in nine towns in Somerset – Wellington, Taunton, Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, Castle Cary, Crewkerne, Nailsea, Portishead and Minehead.

THE eat:Wellington Food and Drink Festival will involve road closures.

The following roads will be closed from 6am-7pm: High Street between North Street and Longforth Road; South Street between Bulford and Fore Street.

There will be no access to or exit from White Hart Lane.

The closure will mean no vehicles can be parked on the street that day – they will have to be removed by 6am. Stewards on the barriers will help with emergency access.
