AS residents of Wellington Without descended on Peterhayes in Ford Street on Sunday, July 10, for their annual party, a few warning drops of rain fell sending some into the shelter of farm buildings.

The rain, however, stayed away and 69 people were able to enjoy a generous lunch followed by a raffle during which a happy 96-year-old won a bottle of Champagne.

New residents to the area – one family had only moved in a couple of days before – were formally welcomed and the recently imposed speed limit in Ford Street was discussed.

The revelry ended before the rain fell by which time many party-goers were back home in front of their television sets watching Briton Andy Murray winning Wimbledon.
