Plans for Fox’s Field in Wellington went on show at an open day in the garden at Tone Dale House.
The event, organised by Transition Town Wellington (TTW) and Wellington Mills CIC, was a chance for visitors to see the work the team has done on understanding the site, its ecosystem, and how a forest garden along with wildflower meadows and other features might enhance the open space for the community.
Forest garden expert Rakesh Bhambri gave a presentation and answered questions about how this approach helps to combat the ecological collapse and climate crisis. A team from TTW has recently completed an intensive design course with Rakesh and was delighted to have their teacher there in person.
Ben Fox, of the Big House Co, which hosted the event, said: “It was a huge pleasure to host this important and inspiring community event. The TTW volunteers were so well organised and the information displays were beautifully laid out. They show just how much thought and care has been poured into this project.”
Riverside resident Gibby Swaine said: “It was great to meet up with so many people who clearly care passionately about not only our immediate environment but about the wider world.”
The organisers thanked Transition: Bounce Forward and the National Lottery fund for financial support for the event, and are looking forward to starting work on the field later in the year.
