AUSTRALIAN ex-serviceman Trace Dann – aka Captain Krankypants – talked about how he is dealing with PTSD and Depressive Disorder on the first date of his national tour at the Catherine Wheel in Hemyock.

The presentation began with a brief introduction to his life, 19 years of military service with tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, ten years in the entertainment industry performing with a David Bowie tribute band, and touring and promoting top Australian performers.

He has suffered with PTSD over the last ten years, gaining the moniker Captain Krankypants from his children. The eventual deterioration of his condition led to an event which prompted him to seek expert medical help.

He explained how a trip to the UK to rediscover his love of live music led to a ‘Eureka moment’ – to use his love of live entertainment to share his story with fellow sufferers and their families, to give a better understanding of the conditions, assist with recovery and, he hoped, reduce the number of depression-related suicides.

In an entertaining and humorous way, he told the tale of his journey from a life of inner turmoil, stress, unhappiness, anger and distrust to a new life of self-awareness, acceptance, trust and, he hoped, happiness.

The evening ended with a question and answer session which prompted a multitude of questions from audience members related to their own situations.

Captain Krankypants is returning to the UK in the spring to continue the tour. To find out more about his story and his future plans, follow his blog at www.captainkrankypants.com?
