SPRING is proving to be a busy time for the Wellington Choral Society with a number of performances planned to bring sweet music to the town.
Their recent event was also a roaring success, with no seats left unoccupied. Audience members reported that the night was memorable for all the right reasons as people from all walks of life came together to hear the culmination of many months of practice.
On behalf of the society Lucy Watson and Annie Matthews said: “Wellington Choral Society were thrilled to have a full house once again for our performance of Brahms German Requiem on Saturday, March 28.
“Our audience said it was a memorable evening listening to such moving music performed by the choir. We were delighted to have two local Somerset Soloists Josephine Cresswell Soprano and William Drakett Baritone. There was a fantastic atmosphere in the church and the choir had a wonderful evening singing such beautiful music after all their hard work.”
Now members of Wellington Choral Society must turn their songbooks onto their next venture which is a ‘Come and Sing’ event on Saturday, June 13, from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm in Wellington Preparatory School Hall South St, Wellington TA21 8NT.
There is no charge for attending and music will be provided free.
Lucy and Annie added: “Laurence Blyth our Music Director will be taking us through some of the choruses from Mozart's Mass in C Minor for which we will start rehearsals in September 2026 and choruses from Verdi Requiem. Do come and join us. It is a chance to give us a go and see if you like what we do. We are a friendly choir and welcome new singers and you do not need to be able to read music.”
