FUN and frivolity was had by all who attended a Funk, Soul and Disco Night at the Wellington Arts Centre.
Tickets sold out quickly to see established local band The Blue Room Baboons and newcomers Discocactus play popular and less well known covers from the 70s to present day, with some original songs too from the Baboons.
The atmosphere was amazing, and the room was packed with people dancing and some in fancy dress. It will be a night to remember.
The gig was put on to raise funds for two local good causes; the Transition Town Wellington and Save the Wellington Monument. A fantastic £1009 was raised through ticket sales and donations on the night.
Organisers would like to thank everyone who gave their time and effort for free: the bands, the bar staff, sound, lighting and all other helpers. The night was a great community effort, and the fundraising for local causes is much appreciated.
Nancy will put her share towards the £4,800 raised by her 180 mile charity walk to save the Monument. The TTW will put their share towards their website, (ttw.org.uk), planting trees at the next community orchard, a cookery book and a directory of local food producers.
The Blue Room Baboons and Discocactus had such a great time playing together that they will be sure to repeat such a successful night in the future. See Facebook pages https://www.facebook.com/discocactusband/posts and https://www.facebook.com/funkybaboons/ for upcoming events.
