THE husband and wife team who quit successful careers to run Wiveliscombe-based business Waterrow Touring Park on Exmoor are celebrating award success.
Jamie and Lynette Cook, who own the touring park with Jamie’s parents, won the gold award in the camping and caravanning category of the 2017 Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.
The judges announced their decision at an awards ceremony at Somerset County Cricket Club attended by senior tourism figures from across the region.
Waterrow is now in the finals of the South West Tourism Excellence Awards being held in February and could compete in the national VisitEngland finals later in the year.
Jamie and Lynette quit their careers in IT and customer services five years ago to take on the picture postcard park on the fringes of Exmoor.
The keen caravaners saw Waterrow as a chance to create the type of ideal surroundings they sought for themselves on their own holiday breaks.
They have put special emphasis on caring for the park’s natural environment and last year were named winners of the David Bellamy Conservation Award at its top gold level.
Wildlife-friendly features help attract otters, deer, owls and many other bird species – plus butterflies and honey bees drawn to the pollen-rich wild flowers in the grounds.
