A FORMER well known gardener, Bob Corbin, a founder member of the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) who has lived in Wellington for more than a decade, celebrates his 100th birthday today (Wednesday).

Bob, who was born in Micheldever in the New Forest on September 23, 1915, moved to Wellington in 2003 and wrote his autobiography, R.J. Corbin’s Travels of a Bothy Boy, while living in Abbeyfield in Wellesley Park.

He was president of the IOG for ten years and worked for Greater London Council (GLC) for more than 33 years, helping to transform and landscape some of the heavily blitzed housing estates in the war-torn capital.
