THE Wellington Foodbank is expected to come under increasing pressure as the cost of living continues to rise sharply.

Christine Silverlight is a lead volunteer of Wellington Foodbank which is part of the Taunton operation and distributes from the United Reformed Church in Fore Street.

She said this week: “I am now aware that folk are really starting to struggle out there. Nearly everyone who has come to the foodbank recently has mentioned that they are have difficulty paying their bills. It is starting to cause some real hardship.

“We ask that our clients get a referral before they come to us and you can do this by getting in touch with Somerset West and Taunton Council on 0300 304 8000 or you can ring Citizens Advice on 0808 2082138.

“If you are struggling to pay your fuel bills, it’s a good idea to ring your energy supplier. They may be able to help you. If you can’t get in touch with them, try Citizen’s Advice – they have a lot of information on getting the best energy deals, grants and discounts.

“If you want to have a chat with staff at the foodbank (and they are really lovely caring people, trust me!) you can ring them on 07761 624216 (please call before midday); you can also email the foodbank: [email protected]

• If anyone wants to meet Christine for a chat she will also be on the Wellington Churches Together stall at the Platinum Jubilee Street Fair on June 4.
