ONCE again the parish church at Hemyock was beautifully decorated in mainly yellow and white flowers to celebrate Easter. Among the flowers were those dedicated to loved ones as well as the traditional Easter garden featuring three crosses and empty tomb.

The Rev David Burton conducted the service with lessons read by the Rector and Cheyenne Jordan. The choir under the leadership of Ron White sang the anthem This Joyful Eastertide.

At the end of the service flowers were presented to Jane Attlee, who had recently retired as flower co-ordinator after leading the team of flower arrangers for about 15 years, although she had been arranging flowers at St Mary’s for many more years than this.

Happy birthday was sung to Ann Smith celebrating a special birthday and congratulations were given to Stewart and Monica Smith who had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary the previous day.  The couple, who had provided cake for all to enjoy, had been married at St Mary’s and moved to Wellington, returning to Hemyock a few years ago.

Monica has now taken over the role of flower co-ordinator.  She is a member of the choir and Stewart a sidesman, verger and server.
