More than 350 visitors went to see the full-size replica of the Shround of Turin when it was exhibited at All Saints’ Church in Rockwell Green.
They included those of all faiths and others with an interest in history, science and carbon dating the Shroud, and children from the local primary school.
All Saints Church PCC secretary Veronica Tatnall said: “We send our thanks to Michael and Lynne, members of the British Society of the Turin Shroud, who were able to help visitors unwrap and understand so much more about the Shroud itself, that the original was found to have a density of pollen around the head akin to a thistle like plant found in the area, flowering in the spring.
“The right cheek was badly bruised, the shoulder joint thought to be dislocated, more than 120 flogging marks over the body and soil particles on the bare feet, knees and nose, indicating a fall. “No-one at the moment can prove or disprove the authenticity of the Shroud, every visitor is left to make up their own minds.”
All Saints’ hopes work on the church spire will start soon before the winter weather sets in, which would cause more damage. Fundraising continues with many events planned and donations can also be made at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/allsaintschurchrwg The PCC is relying on events and donations to raise cash as the project has to be self-funded by All Saints’.
