PAPUSZA (15), based on the true story of Roma poet Bronislawa Wajs, is being screened as part of the Cinema Obscura season in Wiveliscombe on Sunday (February 19).

The film provides an insight into the Roma way of life as it follows Papusza’s life from birth to old age – an arranged marriage as a small girl, her life in a gypsy tabor before, during and after the Second World War, forced settlement in communist Poland and her meeting with the poet Jerzy Ficowski, who discovered her great talent for poetry.

The film, in black and white and in Roma/Polish with English subtitles, is screened at Wiveliscombe Primary School New Hall at 7.30pm (doors open 7pm). Guest membership entrance is £5.
