WELLINGTON Town Council is still waiting to hear from pub chain J D Wetherspoon following complaints received about smoking and discarded cigarette ends outside the front of the Iron Duke pub.

The council wrote to the head office of J D Wetherspoon on April 12 about ongoing issues at the front of the pub on the corner of North Street and Fore Street with claims the area was looking untidy and unattractive.

But councillors were told at their latest meeting last week that they had still yet to receive a response about their complaint.

There has also been a problem in the area with pigeon fouling – after anti-pigeon spiking was removed from the roof of the TUI building in Fore Street which is next door to the Iron Duke.

Councillors also wrote last month to the Diocese of Rochester, the building’s owner, asking for it to reinstall the anti-pigeon measures on the TUI building.

Town clerk Kathryn Hemensley said, however, in a report that they had received a reply about that issue.

“They have responded and advised that the request had been passed to their managing agents, Savills,” she said.
