WELLINGTON School, one of Wellington’s biggest employers, has made a ‘number of support staff’ redundant.
In a statement issued to the WWN on Tuesday, the school said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has presented organisations across the country with unprecedented challenges, and Wellington School has not been exempt from facing these challenges. Wellington employs over 300 staff.
“The economic realities faced by businesses large and small across the country have seen the school being forced to closely examine its costs. As a result, a number of support staff have been made redundant.
Headmaster Eugene du Toit said: “’The decision to make colleagues redundant is always extremely difficult but, sadly, some redundancies have had to be made.
“Staff at Wellington worked tirelessly to provide outstanding remote learning to our students during lockdown and to support parents as well. The school’s efforts were recognised by two national publications, and parent and pupil satisfaction – gathered in anonymised, online surveys – was extremely positive.
“The school is now completely focused on preparing for a full and safe re-opening in September, when we look forward to welcoming all our students back to lessons.
“Everyone at Wellington School is deeply committed to working together in meeting the challenges we face head on, and I know we will all emerge as strong and united as ever.”
