A KEY bus service will not be serving Wellington this summer, amid the M5 junction 26 refurbishments scheduled from June.
The Falcon Megabus — which is relied on by many of the town’s residents for journeys to Bristol and Plymouth — will be halting its services from June 15 until September 19 due to the upcoming closure of Wellington’s motorway junction 26.
A spokesperson for Megabus said: “Due to essential roadworks and the closure at M5 Junction 26 from 15 June until 16 September, our Falcon service will temporarily be unable to serve Wellington.
“Unfortunately, there is no suitable diversion that would allow us to serve the stop without causing significant delays and disruption to the rest of the service.
“A local service will operate to help customers connect via Taunton, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while these works are completed.
“We encourage passengers to check X for the latest travel information.”
National Express and Berry’s Coaches have confirmed their services will remain unaffected by the M5 closure.
Wellington resident Tiffany Paige Hawkins, who has special needs, says she relies on the service to get to Plymouth to see her family.
She said: “I absolutely hate that they are not stopping in Wellington as I rely on that service every week to Plymouth to see my mum and sister.
“As I'm special needs I am panicking so much about it as I might not get to see my mum and sister much for 3 months.”
A Megabus customer service operator has said that alternative shuttle buses are expected to be organised by Somerset Council to transport passengers to alternative Falcon Megabus stops.
Wellington Town Council say they have been in touch will Somerset Council to clarify the situation, including the provision of shuttle buses.
Somerset Council has been contacted for comment.
