The Friends of St Peters Church, Langford Budville, were delighted to see more than 60 villagers, parents and children gather for the annual Christmas tree lighting up event in the churchyard on Saturday.

The children enthusiastically shouted for Father Christmas to appear and help switch on the lights.

And prize winners in the handwritten poetry competition received their prizes. Winners were: Nine-11 – Annabel Chrittenden, five-eight – Charlie Pattison, under fives – Thomas McKay.

Runners -up were: Florence Self, Teira Mansell, Willow Bogan-Chandler, Abigael Bill and Jacob Care.

Afterwards everyone retreated into the warmth of the church to sing carols and enjoy welcoming Christmas refreshments, and all the children received presents from Father Christmas.
