The Royal British Legion Wellington Women’s Section, led by branch chairman Madge Covey and helped by treasurer Angie Filler, ran a successful stall at the Spring Fair in Wellington Park.
Just over £1,120 was raised on the day and the money will be divided between Wellington’s annual Poppy Appeal, the women’s section in support of the RBL and buying a memorial tree and plaque commemorating 75 years of the women’s section in the town.
Wellington branch chairman Bob Trickey, secretary Peter Critchard and member Ray Filler were also on the stall.
Madge said: “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us by donating at the stall.
“We will continue to show our presence in Wellington while raising money for the Legion.
“We were also trying to get more people to join the Legion. You do not have to have served in the armed forces to become a member.
“Having done so you will be working in support of those people who are still in the forces, those who have served and need our support and help to continue to remember those who gave their lives in service of their country.”
