I saw the photo of the Fox Bros entry in Wellington Carnival (WWN, October 9) and the picture (above) is from my late father’s collection. He is pictured standing in the centre of the photo dressed in his RAF uniform, Corporal Desmond Winter.
The float was entered in the 1950 carnival by the wool rooms department at Fox Brothers and Co Ltd. The entry won first prize in its class and championship of the carnival.
The float was in two sections – on the left, What We Do Want (War) and on the right What We Don’t Want (Peace).
In the centre of the photo in the white dress is Clarice Pook, next to her is Jack Horrill and far right is Derek James.
