It was good to see your tribute to Rivers Barry (WWN October 30), thoroughly well deserved.

I’d like to add some information on his teaching career. By chance I was on the panel when he was interviewed for a post at SCAT, and it was obvious he would be a great asset to the college, which he certainly was.

At a later date he joined a regular coffee morning started by some of us when we retired, and his breadth of knowledge, ready wit and command of our language made him a joy to have among us. He could even discuss religion without upsetting anyone. “Faith transcends evidence,” was a phrase I’ll always remember.

All the plaudits he’s been given were well deserved.
