THE life of the remarkable Thomas Young is the subject of a talk at Wellington Junior School tomorrow (Thursday).

Young was born in Milverton in 1773 and at an early age acquired great knowledge of ancient and modern languages.

Although he is best known for his work on translating the Rosetta Stone and decoding hieroglyphics he was also a pioneer in optics, the laws of elasticity (Young’s Modulus) and life insurance – all the while practising medicine.

This remarkable man is the subject of the talk by John Young at 7.30pm.

The venue is beside the mini- roundabout in South Street.

The talk is in aid of Wellington Local History & Museum Society. Entry is £3, or £2 for members of the society.
