A proposed first floor extension at the rear of 19 John Grinter Way, Wellington, was turned down by Wellington Town Council at its December meeting despite being recommended for approval by Taunton Deane planners.

Councillors felt the application by Mr N. Bergelis would result in a loss privacy and light as well as causing overlooking and lead to increased traffic.

It was reported that two letters of objection had been received on the grounds of loss of light to rooms, loss of privacy, increased overlooking and additional traffic on a dangerous corner.

Planners stated that given the distance to the boundary of the property the extension was unlikely to have an adverse impact on the amenities of neighbours or cause excessive overshadowing. A similar two-storey extension had been constructed at 17 John Grinter Way.

The town council decided to recommend Taunton Deane Borough Council to refuse retrospective permission for the fascia and pole signs at the One Stop Shop at Tonedale Mill, Tonedale, Wellington. The Deane will make the final decision.
