HUNDREDS of pounds has been raised for Wellington Majorettes’ new trailer fund at their annual Christmas bingo and draw.

Some £1,040 was coined in and fundraising co-ordinator Dawn Odgers said: “The whole team worked really hard selling tickets in the lead up to the event, which has made an amazing difference to our funds at the end of the day.

“Special thanks must go to everyone who donated prizes, attended the bingo and bought tickets. The money raised will be put towards the majorettes’ new trailer fund recently supported by the Wellington Co-Op Community Fund.”

It was announced at the major-ettes’ presentation and celebration evening that last year the team had 30 training sessions and performed their routine 23 times at local events, parades and carnivals. Nine members achieved 100 per cent attendance and a further two missed just one training session each.

Troupe leader Louise Brierley stated this was the first year the troupe has had so many members with such high attendance. “The dedication from our members and the support from all the families has been fantastic,” she added.

The diary for 2018 is already busy with many local bookings such as Wellington Park Spring Fair, Manor Care Home Car Show and Ruishton Village Fun Day.

Social events include a family team-building camp weekend in May and an exchange trip to France in August which will be reciprocated in September when the French Majorettes return to take part in Wellington Carnival.

Anyone organising an event who would like Wellington Majorettes to attend is asked to get in touch as only a few dates are available.
