COURT Fields School, Wellington, student Marco Roncaglia was well into his week’s training with Mark Windsor of Windsor Upholstery in the town when Jane Wilkie arrived with a cushion for foam filling.

Under Mark’s watchful eye, Marco cut the foam to shape, applied a four-ounce polyester wadding before sealing it with adhesive spray to stick to the foam.

He then placed this within a stockinet lining and made sure it was millimetre perfect within the circular cushion.

Jane decided to make a cushion for her husband’s work desk and chose the tweed fabric on the Island of Harris, in the Outer Hebrides, direct from the mill.

She cut the fabric to shape and used it as a subject for her tailoring courses with Aneka Truman of Made-to-Sew at Hambridge.

Jane said: “Mark always helps us with our soft furnishing needs and it was nice to see young Marco learning the skills.

“In fact, before Mark explained he was on work experience, I thought he was a new member of staff as he was stripping a sofa with great attention to detail.

“I am delighted with the finish and my husband Ken is already sitting comfortably on it at his work desk.”
