Wellington fire crews only 30 minutes into New Year before first emergencyCharlie, a former bricklayer from Wokingham, met Denise, born in Devon, for the first time at Wokingham Cinema on a blind date after he returned from his service in the Army at the end of the Second World War.
They spent the early years of their married life raising their family in Woodley, first with Lynda, then Marilyn, Chris, and Theresa.
From there they retired to Cornwall, enjoying walking, bird-watching and spending time with their ever-expanding family.
Charlie and Denise now proudly head a family of four children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren – with another on the way – and live in Post Close, Wellington.
They celebrated their anniversary surrounded by friends and family, with Charlie sporting the same tie he wore on his wedding day 70 years ago. At the ages of 92 and 88, they are still living life to the full.
