CHARITY SCRUB: Wellington's town mayor and mayoress, Cllrs Andrew and Jackie Govier, pictured right, joined local fire fighters washing cars for charity on Saturday.

The forecourt of Wellington fire station was turned into a car wash to raise more than £1,000 for Heartstart, the British Heart Foundation's programme for teaching emergency life support skills, in a fundraising event sponsored pound-for-pound by Barclays Bank in the town.

Wellington firemen provide free training in basic life saving skills to groups of up to six people at a time.
