VANDALS are reported to have laid waste to saplings planted less than a month ago by volunteers as part of the first stage of a community woodland project in Wellington.
A number of trees have been uprooted at the new Moor Wood, near Corams Lane, and a line of trees have been flattened.
Sally Gosney, who is manager of the St Margaret's Somerset Hospice shop in the town, and who walks her dog in the area, said: "A whole row of trees has been flattened.
"It was a moronic thing to do, but I doubt if many people will be very surprised.
"The trees were planted near a cycle recreational area."
