Onlookers cheered when the top stone, known as the capstone, was lifted back into place at the very top of Wellington Monument last week.

The date last Wednesday – October 21 – was the 203rd anniversary of the laying of the first stone of the monument.
National Trust community fundraiser and engagement officer Emma Jones said: “I admit I had a little tear of emotion. As someone said, it is a moment in history, one of those precious moments we are lucky to be part of.”
