In 1885 the third duke of Wellington presented a short-case pendulum clock to the Wellington Literary Institute.

At one time the clock (pictured) was in the Old Town Hall, now The Iron Duke, where the institute held its meetings.

Nowadays the clock is part of Wellington Museum’s collection and is in the old Town Council Chamber on the first floor of The Squirrel in Fore Street.

Unfortunately this 130 year-old clock has stopped working, probably due to it being knocked.

Wellington Museum Society is looking for someone who knows about pendulum clocks to fix it.

Anyone who can help should contact the society via [email protected] or leave a message on 07971 242904.
